Boycott Israel

  • Israel is an artifact of a 19th century political philosophy that came into being in the mid-20th century. Its founding principles and moral compass are completely outdated and thus not acceptable to the modern mind. In the 19th century, racism, sexism and class-based discrimination were widely accepted as the norm. This is no longer the case.
  • Colonialism is completely unacceptable to a modern person. Israel insists on perpetuating the myth of the Chosen People for the Promised Land, to the exclusion of the rights of the indigenous peoples. Israel as a Jewish state can no longer be justified.
  • Relying on vast support from Western powers which are heavily influenced by the Jewish lobby and financial capital, Israel has succeeded in dominating the Palestinians and their neighbors. The Jewish Diaspora and its supporters unjustifiably demonize those who are critical of the existence of Zionist Israel and its policies.
  • While the national liberation movement of the Palestinian people is often portrayed as terrorism by the Western media, the truth is that Israel practices state terrorism with impunity because of Western support. We condemn unequivocably any violence, especially against civilians. And we note that the scale of Israeli violence is orders of magnitude larger than that of its counterpart.
  • Palestinian armed resistance has been futile and has a negative impact on the world opinion of the Palestinian liberation struggle. Non-violent resistance as exemplified in the Boycott Divestment Sanction (BDS) movement may play a critical role in resisting Zionist Israel.

PACBI and BDS

  • Five years ago Palestinian civil society initiated a movement based on non-violent resistance principles as enunciated in the PACBI principles (Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel). Its aim is to call upon people of conscience worldwide to take actions directed against Israel in a manner reminiscent of those taken against South Africa several decades ago.
  • Over the ensuing several years, the influence of BDS worldwide has been increasing. The ultimate hope is that, as in the case of apartheid South Africa, the racist Israeli regime will fall.

Is BDS Enough to Change Israeli Policy?

  • The simple answer is that traditional BDS directed against Israeli enterprises will not be sufficient to change Israeli government policies as was the case of South Africa.
  • The difference is that the worldwide Jewish diaspora supports Zionist Israel, while the Afrikaner population outside South Africa was minuscule and limited to the Netherlands. As long as there is significant Jewish support of Israel worldwide, the struggle to liberate the Palestinian people will be difficult.
  • Thus it is absolutely essential to confront Zionist support of Israel worldwide. The current BDS movement does not adequately address this issue.
